Dhanteras is one of the most popular days of the year to bring home a new car, bike or scooter. In 2026 it is especially favourable: it falls on a Friday, the day of Shukra, the karaka (significator) of vehicles, and the Moon is in Hasta, a nakshatra considered good for buying vehicles.

Dhanteras puja vidhi
- Clean the home, especially the entrance and the North-East corner, and make a rangoli at the door.
- In the evening, during the puja muhurat, place idols or pictures of Lord Dhanvantari, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera on a red cloth in the North-East.
- Light a ghee diya, offer flowers, kumkum, rice, sweets and the new items you bought.
- Chant ॐ धन्वन्तरये नमः and the Kubera mantra ॐ यक्षाय कुबेराय वैश्रवणाय धनधान्याधिपतये नमः.
- Yama Deepam: after puja, light a four-wick lamp outside the main door, facing South, for the protection of the family.
